Seems like those days are gone when producers would fear an 'adults only' certificate. After Aamir Khan, it is Milan Luthria's turn to be delighted even though his film has been given an 'adults' certificate by the Censor Board. When Delhi Belly was about to be censored, Aamir was worried about cuts being introduced in the film. The same was the case with Milan as well who felt that cuts would compromise the final product, which has already garnered so much momentum with the audience.
"When The Dirty Picture was being conceptualized, Milan looked at is as a hot and spicy opportunity of blending sex with an emotional tale, which was shocking yet entertaining," informs an associate of the director.
Adds his assistant director, "Yes, at the end of it all there was a creative aspect to the film as well since Vidya is enacting the part of a woman who moves from nowhere to somewhere while battling the loneliness and despair that comes with such a journey. Still, The Dirty Picture was bound to carry adult content in it, as it was not just integral to the story but also very marketing-friendly. Milan expected all along that the film would be given an 'A' certificate and he isn't surprised one bit."
What is particularly impressive and noteworthy here is that the film has been cleared with zero cuts thus implying that the audience will get to watch The Dirty Picture in its complete original form.
"Let me be honest," says Milan with a straight face. "When I make up my mind to make a film, I have to look at it not just from a creative standpoint but also in terms of its commercial viability. The Dirty Picture works on both counts hence I don't mind the 'A' certificate. When you have something that arouses the libido, I guess it is only fair to have the right set of audience walking in."
Concludes a trade source on the condition of anonymity, "The censor officials are said to have enjoyed the film. They felt it was entertaining while subtly conveying an important message."
