Sudhir Mishra, the noted filmmaker who is known for his films like Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi and Chameli is currently adding finishing touches to his next film Khoya Khoya Chand. The film revolves around the film industry during the 60s and features Soha and Shiney in the leading roles.
And Sudhir isnt the kinds who opt for an extended vacation or a break after completing one project. He has a fair idea of not just one but two films that he plans to start post Khoya Khoya Chand. The first one is a venture for Ekta Kapoors Balaji Telefilms. Isnt it the same film that was rumoured to be a remake of Sudhirs directorial attempt Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahin Yes I am speaking with Ekta and she has told me that she will be producing the film, confirms Sudhir Mishra. But I am not remaking Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahin. I am taking a character from Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi and one from Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahin and weaving a story around them. Pankaj Kapoor played a young student leader in Yeh Woh Manzil Toh Nahin that was shot in 1987. Siddharth was the character played by Kay Kay in Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi. I thought it would be interesting to put these two characters in the present context and have an interaction between the two. It is a young youth film. Its a film about student agitation, music and rebellion of our times. So its not a remake but a thematic remake.

A thematic remake sounds interesting. So is he ok with the concept of remaking films? I dont see any problem in remaking a film as long as you have a new take on the film and you can give something fresh to it. If the film excites you and you can add something new to the film, then why not! I have a problem with remaking some classics though but then thats my personal problem. I think classics should be left alone. And they are classics because they talk to us even today.
But the filmmaker doesnt just end up over here. Post his thematic remake, Sudhir will be doing a political thriller for Pritish Nandy Communications. Its a bit of personal history combined with modern day politics. I have some connection with politics from my mothers side. I have had a kind of birds eye view without being involved or taking advantage of it. I am my fathers son and have been kept away from this world. But I have seen a lot personally. And I think its interesting to do that kind of film.
|The problem of working with newcomers is that the director has to be a teacher as well.|
Also, wasnt Sudhir Mishra initially supposed to launch two actors Sarvar Ahuja and Aditi Sharma in a film to be directed by him? Eventually the two were launched by Subhash Ghais Mukta Arts in Khanna and Iyer that released recently. A couple of years back Sudhir was one of the judges on the talent hunt show Zee Cine Star Ki Khoj and it was then that he had promised a film to both the winners of the show Sarvar and Aditi. So what happened to that project? Well I started doing something else and writing Khoya Khoya Chand and that film kind of got delayed, so I opted out. I havent seen their new film but I thought they had a particular talent which I could use. I work better with newcomers than most people. The problem of working with newcomers is that the director has to be a teacher as well. There are few directors who can teach as well as direct. Mr Ghai had worked on them personally so he was an ideal person to launch them through Mukta Arts.
