David Freeman, Hollywood's ace scriptwriter who has sold his scripts to several studios and has been in the creative world for a long time, is soon going to be in India, and is all set to host a two day Screenwriting Master Class on 26th and 27th March at Whistling Woods, Mumbai.
According to Asifa India, the organizers, "It's the most popular screenwriting class in Los Angeles, New York and London, and this is the first time it's been offered in India."
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, David Freeman said, "From many people I've spoken to, I've learned usually screenwriting in India isn't studied the way it is in America, and that screenwriters aren't respected nor paid nearly as much. I think my statement might surprise some of the readers: to my knowledge, not a single Bollywood film has ever been released in major American cinemas."
In this workshop, David will be focusing on technique based approach to screenwriting, share powerful creative tools so that they can better express their own creative vision and a lot of empathy techniques.
Talking about himself and his popularity of workshop which are getting hosted in several countries he shares, "I've been crisscrossing the world so much, teaching screenwriting and speaking at film conferences that I used up my 10-year passport in 2 years, and had to get a new one just for my trip to India! With all this traveling and with my writing and consulting, I haven't had the time to study India's wonderful tradition of Bollywood films. I'm going to do my best to watch some of the famous ones before my 'Beyond Structure' screenwriting and development master class in Mumbai."
On a concluding note, David shared about India and its culture. He said, "I read the Bhagavad Gita when I was 16 years old, and it changed my life. To me, it's an endless fountain of wisdom. How could one country give birth to so much? I find it to be almost inconceivable. And this legacy of wisdom predates written history; we don't even know how far back it goes."
"I hope by saying the above I don't offend anyone of other faiths and beliefs, or even atheists. Certainly a person's humanitarian values and behavior are more critical than any belief. But, to be truthful, this is one of the reasons I look forward to my very first visit to India."
