HC suspends Salman Khan’s jail term

Just the day before yesterday Salman Khan was convicted to five years imprisonment for his involvement in the 2002 hit and run case. While it was common knowledge that the actor had filed an appeal for bail, the hearing of which began today, the Bombay High Court suspended khan's 5-year sentence in the 2002 hit-and-run case and granted him bail pending his appeal against conviction.

Issuing the verdict Justice Abhay Thipsay of the Mumbai High Court said, "He has been on bail for a long time and his liberty was not curtailed. Normally, in such cases, the appeal is admitted and an accused is granted bail". Further directing the actor to surrender before the trial court and furnish a fresh bail bond of Rs 30,000.

Simultaneously, while the hearing was in progress one of Salman Khan's diehard fans attempted to commit suicide outside the Mumbai High Court, while the actor's hearing was in progress. Apparently the victim who is said to be in his 30's consumed something poisonous and had left behind a letter claiming that Salman is his 'bhagwaan'. Apparently the victim identified as Gourango Kundu, an aspiring script writer and a resident of Bandra East, said in a pamphlet which he had distributed that he was hoping that Salman would help him showcase his talent but if the actor does not get bail, it would shatter his dream.

While the hearing was not disturbed, the police have rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment and his condition is being monitored.
