The year 2016 has seen several new actors and actresses making their Bollywood debut. Anil Kapoor‘s son Harshvardhan Kapoor was one of them who made his debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s directorial Mirzya. The film bombed at the box office and the audience couldn’t connect to it.
Speaking to a daily about the flaws and failure of his debut film, Harshvardhan Kapoor opened up about what went wrong. He said that if he was being honest, he wasn’t expecting Mirzya to set the box office on fire. Obviously, it would have been nicer had it opened with slightly better numbers. He added that Mirzya wasn’t a commercial film and it’s safe to say that now. He pointed out that one doesn’t know what is mainstream cinema and what is not until it’s really put out there. Moving forward, he is also discovering the sensibilities of the audience.
Harshvardhan further talked about how he was the first one to admit that their movie was flawed. He said that Mirzya wasn’t a perfect film. But most films are flawed. It was visually enchanting and musically stunning, though. Harsh admitted that as newcomers, Saiyami Kher and he didn’t do anything glamourous or starry in it. Harsh had dirt all over and sported a full grown beard. Rajasthani stable boys and warriors are like that. So, the learning is that one goes from story to story. He concluded saying that he understood that people universally couldn’t connect much with the film. Some people liked it and they did let him know.
Harshvardhan Kapoor says that his next film Bhavesh Joshi with Vikramaditya Motwane is a lot more accessible in that sense. He informed that this film will be Vikram’s most commercial film to date. He revealed that he has shot half of the film and will be wrapped early next year.
