This was exactly the condition of the officials at the Assam University, when the eminent lyricist Gulzar was appointed as its Chancellor. The officials now feel that this association will help the university in improving its image.
Talking about the development, Pinak Pani Nath Purkayastha (Secretary to University's Vice Chancellor Somnath Dasgupta) said that the appointment of the Chancellor in the central universities is the Indian President's right, who is the Chief Visitor of the universities. He added that the President took this decision since he thought it was appropriate. He also added that they have received a confirmation from Gulzar for the same and that he is expected to visit the university on May 13.
