May 16 - This is the day when the country would decide which political party would come in power and the Prime Minister of India. For the same day, Bollywood has other plans. A film on Dawood Ibrahim would also release that Friday. Ironically, this is the only release of the week when other films had recently decided to stay away from arriving on such a landmark day that would decide the future of India.
"The film in question is D Gangs Of Mumbai," informs a source, "The release date has been suddenly announced. Moreover, a portrait resembling that of Dawood Ibrahim is quite prominently placed all over the poster design. It couldn't be more uncanny than this to have an underworld based film to be the only release on a day when India would be hoping for the beginning of a new era."
The film stars Sanjay Kapoor (who has turned producer with Arjun Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha's Tevar) and Mahima Chaudhry (last seen in Sanjay Dutt's Sarhad Paar) in the lead, both of whom would be making a comeback to acting.
Incidentally, when the film was being made, it hadn't planned for its arrival to coincide with the day when election results would be announced.
An insider spills the beans, "This is a four year old film which was earlier titled Mumbhaii - The Gangster. It was launched way back in 2011 and is based on a real story with real characters. None of it is fictional. The film then got stuck for various reasons and is now ready for release."
Well, now that the film is finally arriving, one waits to see how the truth is presented on screen and whether audience would be indeed queuing up to watch an underworld saga on such an important day when a new chapter in Indian democracy would be written.
