Emami Ltd has filed a case of illegal infringement in the Andheri court on Tuesday against Filmkraft Productions (India) Pvt Ltd, the production house of actor Hrithik Roshan and his director father Rakesh Roshan. The charge is that the Roshans have allegedly abandoned on an agreement to endorse cosmetic products of Emami in their film Koi Mil Gaya.
According to the allegation Rakesh Roshan had approached Emami in November 2001 and had signed a deal at Rs 12 lakhs whereby he had agreed to display the Emami brand name notably in some scenes of his film. A scene in the movie was to show actress Preity Zinta using 'Emami naturally pearl fairness cream' in a beauty parlour with other Emami cosmetic products lying in her close proximity. Also the parlour was to be named after Emami. But, after the film's release in August, the company discovered that no such scenes were incorporated in the film thereby violating the agreement.
The Roshans are yet to receive a legal notice though the hearing of the case in scheduled on February 7, 2004.
