EK RISHTAA has set a new record in Mumbai. The Mumbai distributors, Devgan Entertainments, have taken out 86 prints of the film, which is the highest ever in the history of Hindi cinema, breaking the record of KACHCHE DHAAGE (83 prints). Normally, not more than 65-70 prints are processed for the Mumbai territory. EK RISHTAA has opened at more than 100 cinemas in Mumbai and circuit, which is also a record.
But what's indeed heartening is the initial response to the film, with the film opening to a 100% opening all over the country. At places, the film is full in advance booking itself for the entire week, which qualifies for the best opening of 2001.
The craze for the film is evident from the fact that special preview shows have been organised for several film stars and producers after its theatrical release. Now that's very rare, considering that preview shows are held before a film's release.
Something similar happened years ago when special preview shows of DILWALE DULHAINYA LE JAYENGE were held for Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit after the film became a blockbuster.
