What could be a more apt way to celebrate a legend’s birthday than by releasing the fascinating story of his life in an autobiography! We are indeed referring to the Bollywood’s golden man Dilip Kumar, whose autobiography will be released on his birthday December 11 by the veteran film journalist Uday Tarra Nayar.
In the first and only authentic narration as told to Nayar, Dilip Kumar will be tracing a long journey that he undertook more than eight decades ago as playful child Yusuf Khan from Peshawar, his acting career in Mumbai, and attaining a stature in Hindi cinema, which critics agree, that no actor has ever reached. The book will also recreate the Pathan neighborhood of the actor’s childhood with illustrations and offer rare photographs of his family, the celebrated couple Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, their friends and most important, his many memorable films. This book is being prepared under the supervision of Saira Banu and published jointly by her entertainment enterprise Sharp Focus and New Media. The latter will also be supporting Saira Banu in conceptualizing, editing, designing, production and promotion of this much-awaited coffee table book on the greatest actor of Hindi cinema.
Speaking about the book Saira Banu said that so many writers had approached Dilip Sahab and her for writing this book. But they decided to choose Uday Tarra because she’s a family member and that Dilip Kumar has known her for a very long time as a film journalist and former editor of Screen. Besides that, Uday’s uncle S. S Pillai (the veteran editor of Screen) had been very close to her family and also that he shared a fine rapport with Dilip Kumar.
The autobiography will be made available through book stores across the country and online soon after its launch.
