Film-makers Mahesh Bhatt, Vinta Nanda, Ashok Pandit, Soni Razdan, Raman Kumar, Mohanjit Singh, actresses Koel Purie, Neena Gupta, Kim Sharma and other personalities including Panchali Chakravorty, Anil Wanvari, Radhika Kumar, Ranjit Rodriques, Nutan Bajaj Sahani, Poojita Chaudhary [Union Minister Renuka Chaudhary's daughter] and noted legal luminary Majeed Memon took the Government of Maharashtra to task and blamed it for the complete breakdown in the city's disaster management efforts. Braving one of the worst rainy days in Andheri, the Bollywood personalities came together to launch an NGO called 'Jaag India' [a brainchild of film-maker Vinta Nanda] and thereafter decided to file a Public Interest Litigation [P.I.L.] against the State Government for its inaction and lackluster performance in such a time of deep crisis. Portraying admirable speed and efficiency, 'Jaag India' started its field work immediately, minutes after its launch. With its common cry, We won't let Mumbai and its spirit get washed away, all the members headed to Versova Village, where they were joined by actresses Meghna Naidu and Sharbani Mukerji, along with D.C.P. Amitabh Gupta and other prominent members of the Mumbai Police force, who had arranged to distribute two truck-full of grains to the people whose homes and families were drowned in the floods.
