Legends of Hindi film industry - Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan, along with Yash Chopra and Javed Akhtar shared the podium on Wednesday with Times Group chairman Indu Jain to unveil the new gold-coloured statuette to mark 50 years of the Filmfare awards. The five jointly unveiled the statuette and spoke fondly of the "beautiful black lady", now a showgirl in gilt hue, and their chequered relationship with her. On the occasion Bachchan said that Filmfare and The Times of India had recognised an actor's greatest need - appreciation - he went on to add, "We've been critical of the award, cynical about it, sad, happy, and frustrated but we have always thought about it and desired it." Dilip Kumar, who shuttled between high-flown Urdu and English, said that Filmfare was one of the most distinguished awards because "our peers in the best years of the industry have been so closely associated with it".
