In a major development in the "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke case', diamond merchant and the film's financier Bharat Shah was today arrested and remanded to police custody till January 19 by a special court here. Shah was arrested under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for his alleged nexus with the underworld. Designated judge A P Bhangale rejected his plea for bail but allowed him to have home food subject to certain conditions. The arrest comes in the wake of Shah moving a court and staking his claim on the negatives of the film which have been seized by police following arrest of film's producer Nazim Rizvi. Shah had been summoned twice earlier for interrogation following the arrest of Rizvi, last month for the latter's alleged involvement with the underworld don, Chhota Shakeel. Rizvi had allegedly acted as the front man of the underworld don and coerced leading stars to act in the film. Though Shah had earlier denied Shakeel's involvement in the Rs 12.7 crore budget film, the crime branch sleuths had hinted at the possibility of Shah's arrest claiming "concrete evidence" of the diamond trader's alleged links with the underworld. Shah has maintained that he financed the film through recorded payments.(PTI)
