‘Bewafa’ Not A Copy Of ‘Gumrah’:

Since its launch, Dharmesh Darshan’s BEWAFA has been in the news for some reason or the other. But one allegation that continues to make the rounds is that Dharmesh is rehashing the yesteryear hit GUMRAH and presenting it in a new avatar. Dharmesh has always maintained a long distance from the media [he doesn’t carry a mobile phone either, so accessing him is next to impossible!], but the director of RAJA HINDUSTANI decided to set the record straight by issuing an exclusive clarification to this writer. Here it goes: “I have always admired the works of the veterans in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Their contribution to Hindi cinema remains unparalleled. I firmly believe that the makers had attempted every genre and tackled various issues in their movies. No wonder, we refer to that period as the golden era of Hindi cinema. “You get inspired by various things in life and those things stay with you for a long, long time. As a film-maker, I have been inspired by several great works. At the same time, even if a great film inspires you, every film-maker has his way of interpreting those stories. “Since our seniors have attempted every possible genre, we’re just borrowing those ideas and interpreting them in our individualistic style. That’s not plagiarism. BEWAFA is not a copy, as is being made out. The setting is different, the characters are different and the ambience is different…” That should set the record straight!
