Bangistan banned in UAE

With low key promotions and many popular Bollywood films occupying screen space, Bangistan has already been facing many hurdles. And now, certain countries have objected to the content in the film. In fact Bangistan has been banned from releasing in UAE.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani, who is shocked over this decision, also mentioned that they will have to lose out on a large market like Dubai. On the other hand, the film will also not release in Pakistan after their Censor Board rejected to do so after viewing the trailer claiming it offensive to the country. Despite the fact, that the makers tried to contact Pakistan High Commission and Censor Board in order to assure them that the content is not anti -Pakistan, the High Commission hasn’t responded to their invite. Moreover, even Singapore is refusing to release the film owing the controversy attached to the film’s subject which is terrorism.

Though in India, Bangistan was easily cleared by the Censor Board with only a handful of verbal cuts and U/A certificate, the film is facing resistance from a religious group called Hindu Legal Cell here. In fact, Prashant Patel, the secretary of the cell, even sent a letter to the Censor Board demanding a stay on the release of the film. He has reasoned that Pulkit, who plays the role of Hanuman in a play in the film, later is seen being involved in terrorist activities and found it objectionable.

Produced under the banner Excel Entertainment and directed by former film critic Karan Anshuman, Bangistan is a satire about two aspiring terrorists who decide to switch identities and plan terrorist activities only to goof-up every mission they have in hand. It also stars Jacqueline Fernandez in a cameo and is slated to release on August 7.
