Just as everyone expected Sanjay Dutt to return back to the jail after his 14-day furlough, he did go to the jail... only to return back to his residence after that.
Speaking about this, his lawyer Rizwan Merchant said that the deemed extension was granted on the basis of the statement made (on TV) by Ram Shinde (Home Minister). in which he said that surrender wasn't necessary until the police gave its report and the authorities will decide on Dutt's furlough extension plea. He added that they reached Yerwada and then, verified the same with the concerned authorities, and after that, Sanjay Dutt returned home. He also added that they have given a written letter telling the jail authorities that Duttis ready to surrender if they ask,the advocate said.
The other side of the case speaks of a different story altogether. Yogesh Desai, (Yerawada jail superintendent) said that Sanjay did not visit the jail and that they have no communication from anybody about the same. Meanwhile, Meeran Borwankar- Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) said she was not aware of the matter.
