4.5 Excellent

This film that I will be reviewing is called, “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani”. It is directed by Ayan Mukherji, who has directed the 2009 hit, Wake Up Sid and again produced by Karan Johar under his banner, Dharma Productions. This movie stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in leading roles, while having Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechlin, and Kunal Roy Kapur in supporting roles.

It starts with Naina, played by Deepika Padukone, who is a bespectacled and uptight person who studies consistently and is always in the top of her class. One day, she meets one of her friends from college, Aditi, played by Kalki Koechlin, who makes her realize that she wants more from life than high marks. She makes an impulsive decision to follow Aditi on a trek into Manali. On the trek, she sees another former classmate, Kabir Thapar a.k.a. Bunny, played by Ranbir Kapoor. Bunny is a handsome charmer and wants to travel the world. Everything to him is just like YOLO. During the trek, Bunny and Naina draw closer to each other. Bunny teaches Naina how to let herself go. At the end of the trek, she is close to telling Bunny how she feels, but is interrupted by their friend Avi, played by Aditya Roy Kapur. He searched Bunny's backpack and found a letter accepting Bunny to graduate school in journalism in Chicago. Bunny explains that the trek is his last trip before he leaves. He will be sad to leave his friends, but happy to start a career that will lead to the travel of which he dreams. 8 years pass as time flies, Naina finishes medical school and works in a clinic. Bunny works as a television cameraman for travel shows and roams the world, as he had planned. They meet again in Udaipur, for Aditi's lavish wedding. That is where Naina and Bunny are again strongly attracted to each other. Both resist love, it is because Bunny does not want to give up a dream job he has been offered as a travel post, Naina because she fears that Bunny will break her heart again. Will they find a way to be together?
