I was so....so....so....hoping that this would be another Dil Chahta Hai. ROCK ON is a nice movie. It is an honest attempt to make a good film, with good performances. Farhan Akhtar proves how versatile he is by giving a brilliant performance on-screen, his voice lent to most of the songs also fits right into the mood of the film. Arjun Rampal defies the myth that models can't act and handles all the emotional scenes especially well. Everybody else lends able support. BUT....BUT....BUT.... An upcoming ROCK BAND, falls out due to ego clashes, and after a long time put aside their differences and regroup. You see thats the story...for a simple and really thin plot-line this movie is very (2 & 1/2 hrs) long, so long that it tends to loose your attention every now & then. It takes a long time trying to point out how happy everybody was while making music, it takes a long time to show us why there was a rift in the band, actually it takes a long time to show everything. It does not grab your attention, doesn't grip you or leaves a long lasting impression. One of the reason for this is the fact that the despite being a musical film, Rock On's music is just mediocre. Due to a common story-line Somewhere you feel you are watching a mixed version of Dil Chahta Hai & Jhankaar Beats. Director Abhishek Kapoor handles the camera well. The rock concerts do look like rock concerts & not some thakela extras crowd waving their hands, but the screenplay should have been a little more tight & zippy. This one is a one time watch.

Rock On Shines !!! (Contains spoilers) Just came back from the premier of "Rock On" , and i'm not going to be biased as i attended the 'Premier', but even though if i would have been to the movie like after a week of its release the "Review" would have been the same, First thing first, The movie is a must watch for "EVERY BAND" (hardly matters even they r papu-shyam and party, doing dandiya music and all) the good thing about the movie is. it shows simple things and their is nothing "Larger than Life" in it (except for the last concert, which was sorta hard for me to digest, but eventually it goes well with the movie) the movie is not only about a "BAND" name "MAGIK" but also about the other characters who r related to band members (while they were disbanded) ofcourse the story is like "EVERY BAND STORY" when they disband and to be honest..working with a "BAND" is a tough job you have to put aside your "EGO", and that exactly wat it is all about the Ego Clash between the lead guitarist (Arjun Rampal, as "Joesph Mascharanues" ) and the lead vocalist (Farhan Akthar, as "Adiya Shroff") Purab Kohli (as "KD" the drummer) will remind u of "Saif ali khan" from Dil Chahta hain but please don't expect "Rock On!!" to be another repeat of that cult movie "NO IT's NOT", The other guy Luke Kenny (as "Rob", Keyboardist) got a very strong character as well. and he sorta did justice with it..(But unfortunately dies cause of 'Brain Tumor', darn Why they have to kill someone to disband a band 'AGAIN' ????? How utterly bollywood) now about the 'Ladies', Prachi Deasai is looking awesomly beautiful (err.. through my eyes) and she too did wonderful Movie oscillates well between the present and past life of the band, Songs r great (except for Zehrelaay, and thank god it wasn't "MAGIK" who performed it in the movie) I don't want to comment more as probably i'll spoil the whole mood of urs it's a nice movie friends, i'll call it a "Dark Comedy" my Ratings for the movie :- ***1/2 outta 5

If you consider 'Dil Chahta Hai' as one of the finest films made on male bonding laced with witty sense of humour and great music, then 'Rock On!!' is a worthy sequel. The only difference being that while in the former Farhan Akhtar made a clever debut as a director and in the latter he makes a brilliant debut as an actor. Rock On!! rocks even in its understated silences of poignance.

The film is about a Rock band 'Magik' comprised of Aditya (Farhan, fantastic, the intensity reminds of angry young man of 70s), Joe (Arjun Rampal, underplayed to perfection), Rob (Luke Kenny, a revelation) and KD (Purab Kohli, hilarious)...how the flashback dreams of stardom while the present is a stark reality of investment banking and mercenary guitaring. Aditya's wife Saakshi (Prachi Desai, first rate debut) brings the band together and then there's the proverbial 'twist'. One more peformance that's noteworthy is that of Shahana Goswami (who'll be making full fledged debut in 'Ru Ba Ru') as the realistic wife of Arjun. This is one actress to watch out for.

Music by Shankar Ehsan loy is electrifying (though it has a niche appeal considering not everyone fancies rock music). I am sure 'Tum Ho Toh' will be a unanimous favourite...a soft ballad with wonderful chorus sections. Farhan the singer isn't bad, for in the context of the film they are an amateur band (moreover, the groovy picturisation makes us for the loopholes too) trying to make it big.

Although Abhishek Kapoor has been credited with story and direction but you can easily witness 'creative' imprints of Akhtar junior (thankfully). On the flip side, the absorbing tempo of the first half dips in the beginning of second half but then it picks up pieces just fine to give a goose pimple evoking concert-climax.

Rock On!! is one movie that will make you smile...effortlessly. Go Rock!
