An outstanding movie which i have seen after long time. A standout, powerhouse, flawless, excellent, outstanding, incredible performance by Junior B. An excellent direction by Mani Ratnam. Cinemetography by Rajiv Menon is truly world class. Music by A.R Rahman is melodious. Ash-Abhi Chemistry is far better compare to their earlier they did together. Mithunda has given a Brillant performance after long years in hindi cinema. Madhavan has done justice to its role. Arya Babbar & Vidya Balan are ok. Performance by rest of the star cast are upto the mark. A movie that should be the indian official entry for oscar 2008. It deserve awards for screenplay, story, editing, dialouge, cinemetography, art direction, choregraphy, background score, lyrics, music, supporting actor(male), best actor, best director, best film.

If Amitabh has “Deewar” & “Black” to prove his undoubted caliber then Abhishek comes up with “Guru” proving that he is truly capable of carrying the “Bachhan” torch much more higher. Impressively the finest performance by junior Bachhan after “Yuva”. He gives you goose bumps and surprises as you go on watching the masterpiece by Mani Ratnam – GURU. As expected Mani Ratnam once again not only proves his mastery over the medium but also surpasses his earlier ventures. Clearly among his top five movies. Performances : Abhishek tops in this field & sets the parameter high. IInd best performance comes from the veteran Mithun Chakraborthy who is just perfectly cast. Aishwarya gives a subtle impressive act as the better half of Guru Bhai. Madhavan & Vidya Balan play there parts well as they have underwritten roles. Manoj Joshi is also noticeable as Guru’s friend from his early days. Direction : Mani Ratnam gives another masterpiece to Hindi Cinema. GURU is clearly the film among the best movies made in the Hindi Film Industry. No doubt the film is at par with Nayakan & Roja. And the worth mentioning part is the casting thought by Mani. It really needs a strong imagination and confidence thinking Abhishek as Guru Bhai and after seeing the movie you are forced to think that no other person in the industry could do better than him. He is just superb in the movie and the kudos all go to Mani Ratnam for this. Story-Screenplay : A tight screenplay of a bio pic (inspired from Dhiru Bhai Ambani’s life) is indeed a very difficult task. But screenplay is such that you want more of it in the end. Very rarely the Ist & IInd half of a film is equally entertaining and only a perfect screenplay can deliver that. Only the court room speech of Guru could be more punchy. Best Scenes : 1. Guru Bhai setting his marriage with his father in law. 2. Guru meeting Mithun Da. 3. Hospital sequence after the suicide attempt by Guru’s associate & friend. 4. Last court room drama is engrossing. Music : A. R. Rahman comes up with some finest tunes. “Tere Bin” & “Jaage Hain Der Tak” are clearly the best among all. The background music and the songs moving into the scenes are just perfectly blended. Good choice of Bappi Lahiri’s voice in “Ek Lo Ek Muft” song Drawbacks : The only drawback is that the film could do without 1 or 2 songs. Otherwise the film is just perfect & its difficult to find the weak points. Verdict : Undoubtedly among the Best Movies from Indian Film Industry. Go watch it even if you have to take a holiday from your work.

MY OPINION ABOUT GURU PERFECT The movie by director Mani Ratnam is always special. GURU too is not an exception to that. In every department like Acting, Direction, Music, Photography the movie is absolutely perfect. The movie is basically a story of a businessman Gurukant Desai, where one can easily understand that, “BUSINESSMAN ARE BORN & NOT MADE”, the way GURU is sharp in his IQ, which he don’t want to use neither in study nor in job for any one else, but wants to use it only for himself in his BUSINESS. Yes, the story resembles almost 90% with Dhirubhai Ambani including less education, daring to do anything & also other incidences like Company Enquiry, Paralysis, etc. In this movie, the director has not concentrated on any technical aspects of Business Development like New Client Development or retention of old clients but instead has concentrated only on ATTITUDE a businessman should have. Acting wise, Abhishek has performed very accurate, nothing less & nothing extra. Such roles are dream roll of any actor, to which Abhishek has given complete justice. His pair with Aishwarya also looks perfect in this movie for the first time, because this movie is not a Love- Triangle or Quadrangle & Aishwarya is purely of Abhishek. (In real life also now…) The qualities of GURU that I would like to implement are: - 1) Confidence on your ability: - Example: - His way of putting forward the marriage proposal to Aishwarya’s father. 2) Daring to do anything: - Example: - Taking all stock of clothes to contractor’s house. 3) Positive Attitude: - Not able to hear ‘NO’. Example: - When contractor comes to convince him to stop his business. 4) Commitment towards business: - Example: - 1) Doesn’t minds at all even if his Brother-n-law lefts him in mid way. 2) Gets married with a girl who 1 year elder to him just to start the business. 5) Leadership Skills: - Example: - The way he handles 25 lacs of people working in his company. 6) Fighting spirit & No fear of failure: - Example: - His ‘Cold War’ against Mithun & R.Madhavan. So, the rocking performance of Bollywood continues in 2007 also, at least the Opening is worth appreciation.

OSCARS 2008 - GURU. One of the biggest powerful movie in Indian film industry. Abhishek is excellent in a gujju role but aishwarya does not fit into a gujju girl character. she acted well but just not fit in. Mani might have looked for a pure gujju (new face) girl opposite abhishek but any way, this movie is all about abhishek and ambanis. Super Duper Bumper HIT. Vidya baalan's character does not need to be in a movie but i guess to add some emotions and to make it look like a commercial movie, Mani Ratnam added Mallika and Vidya. Mayya Mayaa is simply superb. Music of "barso re" is too good. This movie must have been freed from TAX across the country and at least in Gujarat. It shows how Gujarati's are well known for their business mind, risk takers and geniuses. We, Gujju Rocks. Thanks Abhishek for making us pround on your performance. All the best for a career and marriage.

This is by far the best movie I have seen come out of the Hindi film industry. Absolutely everything is perfect about the movie: the photography by Rajiv Menon is no less than that of a Hollywood movie; the music is world-class by A.R. Rahman and so is the lyrics by Gulzar; the acting by Abhishek Bachchan truly deserves all the possible awards for his acting; and finally, Mani Ratnam has equaled his directorial effort of Nayakan, which I regard as his absolute best.

GURU... the title explains everything.... what a movie!!! It is one of the 3 best movies in the last 10 years.... direction, cinematography, choreography, script, dialogues, acting, music .......... every single thing is just perfect. Mithun was superb... ash was brilliant and awesome..... vidya was great and madhavan was beyond expectations..... but above all..... it is abhishek and only ABHISHEK... Abhishek proved that he doesnt need any flying stunts, muscular body, stylish attire, dancing skills or gorgeous look to prove himself....... he knows only one thing and that is ACTING..... bravo abhishek.... you are gonna be the superstar of this millenium.

Awsome Movie! What i say more, so much has been written but i think words are not enough to praise this movie. It was very difficult task to portray the character of business tycoon and this movie not only successfully done this job but also take you to the ride of courage journey of guru in an entertaining way. Like others i was having doubt on abhishek performence but this movie made me speechless. Abhishek Bravo !!! keep it up and i hope you will never disappoint us in your forthcoming movies too. But please do practice dance , i think you are poor in this department but i'm sure in coming movies you will proove yourself in this dept, too. Overall a gr8 movie , Awsome performence by Abhi , mithun. Superb direction.

A powerful and inspirational movie...great theme, exciting and motivational plot complimented by the protagonists,AB junior's exceptional top-notch performance...he was the best and only choice...could'nt have been delivered right by none other than him...a marvelous and deserving of honors and accolades effort.Mithun saab was alos fantastic...Madhavan was annoying and a personality of Vidya's calibre and potential was squandered...only inefficiency on Mani Sir's part, moreover her pairing with Madhavan was wrong and uncalled for.Similarly the smooch was not needed and was not only pointless but also mindless and silly!Music is a let down barring the Tere Bina track...has its fair share of flaws and screenplay errors!Climax could have been slighty different...some supplementary scenes would have been good but then again there was the length factor.A good movie overall, worth commending and recommending!

Guru: Villager, Visionary…improbable Winner! Imagine you are narrating a story to a small kid. It’s nothing new but the same old hair-raising brawl between a mighty lion and a poor goat. You would obviously try to portray both the animals in such a manner that would appeal to the kid and at the same time, underline the morale of the story. Now suppose in an attempt to strike balance between three important elements namely facts, charm and the morale, you tweak the characters as per your convenience; what would the small kid perceive? It will neither be able to get the point nor be able to enjoy the story. Unfortunately, Guru traverses the same path and comes forward as yet another screenplay goof-up after Dil Se and Yuva by Mani Ratnam. It’s evident that the film is based on the life of the business tycoon Dheerubhai Ambani but in an attempt to present a right mixture of facts and charm, the writer loses grip on the characters and thereafter, on the screenplay. Guru is a story of an overly ambitious lad Gurukant Desai who hails from a small village called Idhar in Gujarat. Fed up with the studies, school and sermons of his father, Guru leaves his village and goes to Istanbul in search of a better life. After amassing sufficient money there, he comes back to India to start his own business. Meanwhile, for the want of initial capital to start the business, he gets married with a wealthy seth’s daughter. They come to Mumbai; start their business and then reach the helm. Guru is a story about the grit and gumption of a villager who dares to dream big and leaves no stone unturned in order to realize his dreams. First pluses – On the acting front, Abhishek has given stunning performance. This is probably the best role he has got so far and he doesn’t let the opportunity go off his hands. Mithun is superb in the newspaper owner’s role. The subtle difference between the two is Abhishek plays the character and Mithun becomes the character. Experience matters. All the time you feel that Abhishek is trying to hold the bearing whereas Mithun forces the audience to forget that his character is being played by an actor called Mithun Chakraborty. Aishwarya, Vidya Balan and Madhavn are alright. The conflict scenes have written very well. Cinematography is excellent. Rajiv Menon has succeeded in capturing the essence of what director had thought of for each frame. Art direction is extraordinary. The art director has successfully created the onscreen feel of the 50s. The costumes, sets and overall look and feel of the film look genuine. The negatives – Screenplay is weak. The audience might feel that the real film starts from where the first half ends. The writer should have concentrated on a very few things while writing the screenplay rather than giving it a biographical look. The screenplay, instead of focusing on the essentials, summarizes the life of the great dreamer. At the end, it feels like a textbook answer divided into several points such as childhood, first job, marriage, first business venture, public issue, expansion, enquiry and clean chit. The writer could have avoided the bookish treatment meted out to the screenplay. The confusion in portraying the protagonist clearly shows in the screenplay. The writer was probably confused while developing his character. He wanted to show him as a great visionary but at the same time, he wanted to touch upon the unruly ways the hero adopts to prosper in his business. He wanted to show the combative spirit of the hero and at the same time, he wanted to show the facts. The climax is abrupt and does not leave any impact on the audience’s minds. The speech that Guru delivers before the enquiry commission is bland and the writer fumbles for the crisp ideas to make it more convincing and hard-hitting. The lame excuses that he breaks the rules for the progress of the country and he dupes the government to make them take note of their wrong policies do not appeal. The climax fails to be the real dramatic climax. Vidya Balan’s character seems to be redundant and looks to be included only to highlight the humane side of Guru. Guru agrees to marry Aishwarya keeping the dowry in his mind, he dumps all his goods in the IAS officer’s house, the officer visits his place in the heavy rains to request him to take the goods out of his house and he behaves in real rude manner with all whom he meets are few things that look superfluous and illogical. The interruptions in between the gripping conflict scenes could have been avoided. The conflict scenes should have been more in number. Dialogues are ineffective. Music is okay and songs keep pouring in at wrong places and wrong times which hampers the flow. All in all, Guru doesn’t live up to the expectations it had sowed into the minds of tens of millions of the viewers before its release. The hype, big star cast, massive promotion and director’s name would ensure the bumper opening for the film but it would be hard to sustain the initial furor in the successive weeks. Multiplex owners might laugh all the way to banks but single screen theatres and distributors may incur losses. Guru Banner – Madras Talkies Cast – Mithun Chakraborty, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhavan, Vidya Balan, Manoj Joshi, Sudheer Pande, Roshan Seth, Mallika Sherawat, Rajendra Gupta Director – Mani Ratnam Music – A R Rehman Lyrics – Gulzaar Cinematography – Rajiv Menon

Just saw Guru! A Masterpiece! Speechless I am! This movie is not for regular moviegoer in that it involves intellectuals to properly understand the second half of the movie. A Perfectly directed, terrific performances by all actors equally, fantastically choreographed songs... So if you like your love story masala movies, you may think this movie is boring. Only Mani Ratnam can make such a good movie based on a person's dream and how far he takes it. Bravo Abishek! He is the main character Guru. Performed his role incredibly well. His dialogues and physical gestures at the end were marvelous. Abishek is identified on his own and gladly he doesn't remind me of his father even in intense situations. Not that I have anything against Amitabh Bachan but I am glad Abishek is an actor of high caliber of his own. Besides Abishek, the best of the part of the movie is Mithun. Even after the movie Mithun's acting lingers in your head and gives something to remember for a long time. His acting is immensely personified. Mithun's love for Guru (Abishek), struggle to stay honest on his own and stick to the truth can only be performed by our Mithun'da! This tormented feelings within the actor (Mithun) on screen come so much alive. I loved every bit of him since that is such a difficult character to portray on screen. Mithun's acting is flawless and I would be very surprised if Mithun too does not get the award besides Abishek. Mithun is enjoyable at scenes such as the "meow meow" when playing the twins is so cute. Mithun's talent is not wasted even though he has a shorter role. Mani Ratnam injects Mithun's genius acting capability at the perfect situations of the movie. What's incredible too is that Mithun never overacts in any scene. It's that perfectly natural ! Mithun better get an award for this movie! Overall all performances were good. Mallika is a hottie....loved that song. Everything about the movie is A ++++. Very unconventional, spirited, racy movie. Loved it!
