Filmmaker Pranay Meshram’s AKELLI is a survival drama about terrorism in Iraq. The movie revolves around a young woman named Jyoti (Nushrratt Bharuccha), who works with an airline. She lives with her mother and an orphaned niece. One day, she loses her job due to certain circumstances. This turns out... to be a big blow for her as she is the only earning member in the family, so she can’t afford to be jobless. Thankfully for Jyoti, she lands a job of a supervisor in a garments manufacturing company in Iraq. She leaves her family to work in the foreign country. However, fate has more problems in store for her in Iraq when a group of militants take all the non-Sunnis working in the company captive, including Jyoti. She, along with others, faces physical and mental torture from the militants. But Jyoti is determined to escape and return to India. How she manages to do that forms the rest of the film.
