The Padma Awards were declared by the government of India this year on January 25, the eve of India’s Republic Day. The winners were presented with the awards yesterday in a grand ceremony at New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan. Among them was the veteran music composer MM Keeravani, the man responsible for the iconic ‘Naatu Naatu’ song from SS Rajamouli’s RRR.

Keeravani was presented with the Padma Shri by India’s President Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony was also attended by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Keeravani was accompanied by Rajamouli himself. After the awards ceremony, Rajamouli proudly shared a picture with Keeravani on Twitter and wrote an emotional post saying, “So proud of my Peddanna...!!!” followed by a hug emoji. It translates to, “So proud of my big brother.” This was enough for the fans of RRR to flood the comments section of the post.

RRR released in last March but the film has continuously been in the news this year after it kept impressing the audience and film industry members of the west. Later on, the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ won the Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and soon enough at the Oscars.

RRR told a fictitious story of freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR, who overcome various hurdles to rescue a tribal girl ‘bought’ by a British couple in the pre-Independence India.
