The 1999 Tamil blockbuster, which originally released on the actor’s birthday, has been re-released to mark two major milestones — its 25th anniversary on December 12 and the legendary star completing 75 glorious years of life and cinema.

As she enjoyed watching her father perform on screen, Soundarya shared her heartfelt thoughts with the media and said, “I am so happy. Thank you all for celebrating the film even after 25 years. Watching it with fans felt like a brand-new experience. The vibe and energy were incredible,” she said. She even revealed a quirky moment from the screening: “For the first time, I saw the famous swing scene being played again in theatres. Appa is an emotion. Padayappa is an emotion.”

 

Directed by K. S. Ravikumar, Padayappa tells the story of a man who faces family betrayal and a vengeful cousin, Neelambari, after rejecting her love proposal. The film’s themes of pride, revenge, and resilience struck a chord with audiences, making it a cultural phenomenon that still resonates today.
