Ending the OTT vs theatre battle, Mohanlal confirms exclusive theatrical release for Marakkar on December 2
For the past couple of weeks, Mohanlal starrer Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham was in news for its release platform. A couple of days back at a press conference, the producer of the film Antony Perumbavoor confirmed that the film will be taking the digital route despite waiting for theatres to open for over a year. However in a turn of events, on Thursday night, Mohanlal himself has confirmed the theatrical release of the film. He also announced the release date of the film. The Priyadarshan directorial will have a grand theatrical release on December 2.
Taking to his social media handle, Mohanlal wrote, “It’s time to break the seal of that stunning surprise and we can’t contain the joy! You are about to experience one of the most marvellous visual treats in all its glory, from the place where its dashing frames deserve to be indulged in."
Marakkar had bagged the National Award for the best feature film in 2019 and also won the best special effects and best costume design. It is also said to be one of the most expensive Malayalam films.
Earlier this week while announcing the OTT release of the film during a press conference, Perumbavoor said that the team had sent contracts to 230 theatres owners but only 89 theatres sent back signed contracts. "Some theatre owners told me that other movies were also scheduled for release and screens should be reserved for them too. Finally, when I spoke to Mohanlal sir, he gave me strength. Then I spoke to Priyadarshan sir and took the call for an OTT release with everyone's consent,” the producer said.
