Allu Arjun walks free after spending a night in jail in Hyderabad stampede case

Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was released from jail on Saturday morning, a day after his arrest in connection with the tragic stampede at a Hyderabad theatre screening his latest film, Pushpa 2. The incident, which claimed the life of a woman, has sparked intense public scrutiny.

Arrest and Release Amidst Legal Hurdles

 

Allu Arjun was arrested from his Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad on Friday morning, hours after returning from Delhi, where he attended a success meet for Pushpa 2. The arrest followed a lower court’s decision to remand the actor to 14-day judicial custody. However, the Telangana High Court granted interim bail for four weeks, citing his right to liberty.

 

Despite the bail order, Arjun had to spend the night in jail due to procedural delays. He was finally released on Saturday morning and exited the jail through the back gate, accompanied by his father, Allu Aravind, and father-in-law, Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy.

 

 

Lawyer Terms Arrest as 'Illegal Detention'

 

Arjun’s lawyer, Ashok Reddy, criticized the authorities for delaying the release, calling it “illegal detention.” He said, “They received an order copy from the High Court but despite that, they didn’t release him... They will have to answer. We will take legal action... As of now, he has been released.”

 

Tragic Incident at Sandhya Theatre

 

The stampede occurred on December 4 during an “unscheduled” visit by Allu Arjun to Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre, where Pushpa 2 was being screened. The chaos led to the death of Revathi, a woman attending the event, while her son sustained critical injuries. According to the police, neither the theatre management nor Arjun’s team had informed authorities about the visit, resulting in a lack of adequate security measures.

 

Legal and Public Repercussions

 

The Hyderabad police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management based on a complaint filed by Revathi’s husband. Several members of the theatre’s management, including the owner, general manager, and security manager, were arrested on December 8.
