Squid Game star O Yeong Su admits he “behaved badly” at sexual misconduct trial but denies the assault charges

Squid Game star O Yeong Su, who was accused of sexual assault by a woman, has expressed regret for his unpleasant behavior at the sexual misconduct trial held on Friday in Seoul, South Korea. “I am sorry. I think I behaved badly,” the 78-year-old actor said. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran actor was indicted by local prosecutors in November for allegedly inappropriately touching a young actress while the two were on tour for a play in 2017.

Citing the police report, the outlet shared that the actor “attempted to hug the unidentified woman by force and kissed her on the cheek while they went out for a stroll together.” O Yeong Su admitted that he held the victim’s hand but at the same time denied the assault allegations.

 

The victim’s lawyer previously said the victim was 22 years old at the time of the assault and that she was a junior member of the theater company the veteran actor worked at. “O admitted his wrongdoing when the victim asked for an apology, but he has denied the charges during the investigation, failing to show any remorse for his act,” the attorney said in an initial statement ahead of the trial.

 

According to the report, the woman re-appealed at the time when O Yeong Su won a Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his performance in Netflix hit Squid Game. The woman reportedly “submitted to the police and the court text messages she exchanged with O and details of her medical history, including psychiatric treatment she received after the alleged incident.”

 

“We are providing legal support for the victim and will continue to follow O’s trial,” a spokeswoman for a Seoul-based women’s organization told THR. “Since the trial is pending, we cannot discuss further about the details of the allegations.” Meanwhile, the next trial is scheduled to resume on April 14.
