At the 94th Academy Awards ceremony, viewers were treated to an unexpected homage to a notorious moment from Oscars’ history. John Cena, known for his wrestling and acting careers, took to the stage in a daring move that recalled one of the most memorable incidents in the annals of the Academy Awards. Cena, while presenting the award for Best Costume Design to the film Poor Things, stunned audiences by appearing naked on stage. However, this bold display was rather a carefully orchestrated tribute to a surreal moment from the 46th Oscars in 1974.

The incident Cena referenced occurred during the introduction of Elizabeth Taylor by David Niven. At the height of the streaking craze that characterized the 1970s, a nude man dashed onto the Oscars stage, surprising both the audience and the presenters. Niven famously quipped, "The only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings."

 

 

 

While Cena's appearance caused a stir, it was met with a mixture of shock and amusement from the audience. “Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today?” Kimmel asked the audience. “I said, can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?”

 

Following which, John Cena appeared on stage shirtless.  “I changed my mind. I don’t want to do the streaker bit,” Cena told Kimmel. “I just don’t feel right about it. It’s an elegant event, you know, you should feel shame right now for suggesting such a tasteless joke.”

 

Meanwhile, on the work front, John Cena currently stars in Peter Farrelly’s comedy Ricky Stanicky alongside Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler and Andrew Santino.
