Excitement is brewing among K-drama fans as Gong Yoo and Song Hye Kyo are reportedly in talks to star in a new drama together. As per a report in the Korean outlet Soompi, Management SOOP, Gong Yoo's agency, confirmed that the actor has received an offer. A representative said, “It is true that Gong Yoo has received an offer for No Hee Kyung’s new project. He is currently reviewing it.”

Noh Hee Kyung is a powerhouse writer known for her poignant dramas, including It's Okay, That's Love, Dear My Friends, and the recent hit Our Blues. This wouldn't be her first collaboration with Song Hye Kyo either. The two previously teamed up for the 2008 drama Worlds Within and the highly-rated 2013 series That Winter, The Wind Blows.

Adding to the anticipation, the drama will be helmed by director Lee Yoon Jung.  She's known for her successful works like the classic rom-com Coffee Prince, the popular webtoon adaptation Cheese in the Trap, and the mystery thriller The Lies Within.  Interestingly, Lee Yoon Jung also directed Gong Yoo in Coffee Prince, making a potential reunion even more exciting for fans.

Details about the drama's plot are still under wraps, but reports suggest it will be a modern historical drama. The story is said to delve into the world of South Korea's broadcasting industry, showcasing the struggles and triumphs of those who laid the foundation for the nation's vibrant entertainment scene today.

According to a report in OSEN on April 25, the sprawling historical K-drama spanning from the Korean War to the 1980s, co-produced by Studio Dragon and Noh Hee Kyung's agency, is expected to run for 20-24 episodes. The sheer scale of the drama is evident in the reported production cost. Each episode is estimated to cost a staggering 3 billion won (approximately 2.1 million USD), bringing the total budget to a whopping 80 billion won (approximately 58 million USD).

The Korean War (1950-1953) left a deep scar on the nation, dividing families and plunging the country into chaos. The following decades were marked by rapid economic development and political turmoil under authoritarian regimes. Noh Hee Kyung, known for her poignant and character-driven stories, is likely to explore the human cost of these historical events.

If both Gong Yoo and Song Hye Kyo sign on, this drama has the potential to be a major K-drama event. The combination of a talented writer, a seasoned director, and two of South Korea's biggest stars is sure to generate significant interest.
