Paro, which delves into the harrowing practice of bride trafficking in South Asia, is already drawing attention for its courageous narrative and powerful performances. Taha, who plays a pivotal role in the film, shared his gratitude and sense of purpose on social media, stating: "Grateful and humbled to be part of a story that truly matters. It’s an honour to present Paro at the Marché du Film, Festival de Cannes – a film that sparks an important conversation and reflects a powerful reality." “This opportunity to showcase our work on a global stage means the world to me,” Taha continued. “Truly thankful for the love, support, and belief that brought us here.”
The film, which explores the systemic abuse of women trafficked and sold as brides in remote regions, is being lauded for its unflinching portrayal of a subject often shrouded in silence. With Cannes as its global platform, this film stands poised to catalyze both awareness and action.
As the spotlight shines on Taha and the Paro team in Cannes 2025, the film’s message resonates far beyond the red carpet, a call for justice, empathy, and change. Directed by Gajendra Ahire, Paro: The Untold Story of Bride Slavery is part of a growing wave of socially conscious cinema from India, aiming to merge art with activism.
