Filmmaker Ram Madhvani, along with the team of his latest Sony LIV series, The Waking of a Nation, came together for an evening of discussions and live performances that offered insights into the show's music and storytelling. The event featured actor Taaruk Raina and composer Sameer Uddin, who spoke about the creative process behind the series' soundtrack and its thematic significance.

Attendees were given an in-depth look at the collaborative effort between the show’s filmmakers and musicians, highlighting the role of music in shaping the narrative. The cast and crew engaged with fans, sharing their perspectives on the artistic choices that define the series.
"It was incredible to share the inspiration behind the music and connect with the audience on such a personal level," said Ram Madhvani. "The music of The Waking of a Nation is integral to its narrative, and it was a pleasure to explore that with everyone. Most of my projects derive their essence from music. This time, we used the timeless Dohas by Sant Kabir to drive home the message of harmony and togetherness," he added.
Taaruk Raina, who has lent his voice to the show’s songs, emphasized the emotional weight that music brings to storytelling. "Music makes for incredibly powerful storytelling. Being an intimate part of the soundtrack and to be able to sing these beautiful songs was truly special. I hope the audience felt the emotion and passion that went into each note," he said.
Composer Sameer Uddin echoed this sentiment, adding, "Seeing the audience connect with the music and stories was incredibly rewarding. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the magic that happens when music and storytelling come together."
The Waking of a Nation incorporates Sant Kabir's Dohas, reimagined by Uddin, into its soundtrack. Songs like Chala Chali ka Khela and Hum Pardesi Panchi Baba, performed by Raina, contribute to the series’ themes of social justice and spiritual awakening by blending traditional and contemporary musical elements.
Beyond its music, The Waking of a Nation revisits a significant chapter of Indian history, focusing on the events leading up to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The series examines the colonial mindset that enabled such atrocities while exploring themes of systemic oppression and cultural erasure. Through its historical narrative and evocative soundtrack, the show encourages reflection on the past to foster a deeper understanding of present social issues.
