Netflix unveils first images of Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan from the sets of The Witcher season 3 as production begins

The Witcher’s iconic Geralt of Rivia is getting ready to return to Netflix. The streaming giant just released the very first behind-the-scenes photo from the set as filming on season 3 of the hit fantasy show began.

The epic fantasy series is back in production and the new image shows Henry Cavill returning as Geralt of Rivia; Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vendergerg; and Freya Allan Princess Cirilla of Cintra, all sitting on folding chairs on set. The show’s official Twitter account shared the first image showing the three hanging out next to a frozen lake in their respective costumes. “Our family is back together again. #TheWitcher Season 3 is officially in production!” the caption reads.

 

Netflix also released an official plot summary for Season 3 that reads, “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

 

 

 

Season 2 of the hit fantasy series ended with a new family being formed between Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri. As Collider notes, now that Ciri is public enemy number one and her father is one of the new big bads of the series, it will be interesting to see how the show develops the group’s dynamic. The new description sounds like a non-stop thrilling chase, it seems like we’re getting a little heavier into the politics of the mages and sorceresses.

 

There’s no word yet on when The Witcher season 3 will premiere. The show’s first season debuted in 2019, while the second season ended up coming out in 2021, after production was delayed several times due to COVID.
