From Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s theatre wisdom to Parvathy Thiruvothu’s personal insecurities; IFP season 15 ends on a high with revealing sessions, and creative wins
IFP, the world’s leading convention for all things Creativity X Culture, concluded its milestone fifteenth season at Mehboob Studio on a high note. From personal revelations to rare creative insights, the sessions brought out a raw, unfiltered side of some of India’s most celebrated artists.
From Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s theatre wisdom to Parvathy Thiruvothu’s personal insecurities; IFP season 15 ends on a high with revealing sessions, and creative wins
Parvathy Thiruvothu opens up about her biggest on-set insecurity at the IFP Season 15 stage, “I’ve been lucky with my directors, but the quiet battles are always there. I never went to theatre school or film school, so a lot of my insecurity comes from learning everything on the job. I’m constantly hoarding information like Hermione’s little bag because I want to be prepared. When I played a cop, the uniform was so tight I couldn’t breathe, that’s how conditioned we are to see women ‘perfectly cinched’ on-screen. And I’m that person who keeps asking, ‘But why?’ even if it annoys people, because I don’t need to be liked to protect a character’s dignity. If that makes me a nuisance, I’m completely fine with it.”
On IFP Season 15 stage, Nawazuddin Siddiqui reflects on why Bandit Queen remains one of the most authentic films he has come across as an actor, “Bandit Queen felt so authentic because most of its actors came from theatre acting, something we rarely see in films today. There’s a beautiful saying I truly believe in: the stage demands acting, while the camera discovers only behaviour, for example, if I’m holding a glass and flick it, the camera will only catch that small action. But on stage, you have to express it, you have to speak it, you have to perform it. That’s the only real difference between the two media. For me, theatre is very important because it helps you understand yourself. And with the many diverse forms of theatre we have in India, I feel every actor should experience all of them. It’s incredibly important.”
While the conversations reflected the artistic depth of the festival, IFP’s iconic 50-Hour Challenges showcased its vast creative community in action, celebrating talent across disciplines.
