National Film Awards 2023: Vicky Kaushal and Shoojit Sircar dedicate the prestigious wins to late Irrfan Khan

Sardar Udham, directed by Shoojit Sircar and starring Vicky Kaushal, won the most prestigious National Award for Best Film. The film also won across multiple categories and bagged 4 more awards at the 69th National Film Awards on August 24, 2023. Following the winners' announcement on Thursday, Kaushal dedicated the award to late Irrfan Khan who was previously supposed to play the role.

Vicky Kaushal shared a poster of the film and wrote, “Congratulations team!!! Honoured and grateful to be a part of #SardarUdham … To Irrfan Sir!”

 

 

 

Director Shoojit Sircar also dedicated the wins to Irrfan Khan, who died of cancer in 2020. He wrote on Instagram, "Dedicated to Irrfan Khan.”

 

 

 

Sardar Udham celebrates the patriotism and valour of freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh and has received much acclaim and appreciation from audiences across the globe. The film is produced by Rising Sun Films and Kino Works.

 

A heart-wrenching story of retribution, Sardar Udham showcases the journey of a gallant man who made sure the world never forgets the lives of his beloved brethren who were brutally killed in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919.
