Kangna dances to Krishna-Radha 'geet'

Kangna is indeed taking a uniquely different take when it comes to matters related to Rajjo. Hailed as a fashionista over the years and even winning a National Award for her performance as a high flying model in Fashion, she is stepping into a hitherto unexplored zone with the Vishwas Patil directed film.Kangna dances to Krishna-Radha 'geet'

Since she is playing a nautch girl in Rajjo which is set in the contemporary times, it was imperative that the flagship number in the film not just fits perfectly well in the current milieu but also boasts of a catchy tune that can find an audience amongst all age groups.

Says Kangna, "Right from the days of Gangster I have enjoyed quite a few chartbuster songs so far. There are so many other songs that I hear around me all the times which have turned out to be chartbusters. However I am happy about the fact that 'Zulmi' is as pure as it gets. Otherwise how many songs do we hear which don't have a single vulgar word or someone's name doesn't feature in the lyrics?"

She is further ecstatic about the fact that the song presents her in an Indian classical avtar, something that she had been longing for over the years.

"'Zulmi' isn't one of those quintessential item numbers that have filled the Bollywood scene for last so many years. On the contrary it is based on Sringar Geet which comes from the Raas Krida of Sri Krishna and Radha," informs a source, "Other than the classic base, there is lot of folk influence to 'Zulmi' as well, what with music director Uttam Singh and lyricist Dev Kohli getting inspired by local flavour of Rajashtan and Punjab.

Says Uttam Singh, the man behind soulful numbers of films like Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997) and Baghban (2003), "Some songs are destined. What else can explain the fact that to begin with, I came up with two-three other songs for the situation where 'Zulmi' arrives. However Vishwasji was looking for something different. One day in his office only Dev Kohli came up with a line 'Zulmi re Zulmi Uchat Gayi Nindiya' and Vishwas just fell for it. In five minutes, we had a song in place."

To polish the tune and give it a final shape, 'Zulmi' was then taken to Abbey Road Studios, London, where it was recorded and mastered. While recording engineers out there couldn't help sing praises for the song, back home choreographer Ganesh Acharya was setting the base in place to present Kangna with the kind of 'ada' and 'nazakat' that a song belonging to Krishna-Radha Sringar Geet deserves.

Agrees Kangna, "I was particularly glad with the fact that Vishwas and Ganesh kept the song entirely neat and clean with the steps being very decent. At least an entirely family can watch the song together. Moreover, for me it was a new high altogether."

It wasn't easy to begin with though, considering the fact that Kangna's inherent shyness prevented her from going all the way from Day One. However once the rehearsals began and she started getting into the groove, it was a point of no return. From the rehearsal halls to the actual sets, it was one walk that Kangna was willing to take, which only culminated into added applause that came her way, what with a terrific flair for Indian classical dancing that she put to fore in front of an entire crew.

No wonder, Vishwas Patil is a happy man. For someone who wanted his flagship number of Rajjo to make an instant impression, he is more than glad by the composition, lyrics, choreography and especially Kangna's performance that had ensured that his vision is translated perfectly right on the big screen.

He says, "As per the storyline of Rajjo, my core requirement was for an 18 year old boy to get totally fascinated by Rajjo's performance to an enchanting tune and beautiful words. Yes, I was very demanding and thankfully I had such a terrific support from my musical team that they were willing to go through multiple tracks till I was fully satisfied. I needed a song that pierces heart of anyone and everyone who hears it. Dev Kohli got those words in place, Uttam Sing brought in the right pathos, Ganesh Acharya understood the 'sur' that the song had to take and Kangna was there to pull it all together through her performance."

Though there has been a glimpse of 'Zulmi' which one can see in the film's First Look that has just been released, one looks forward to catching the entire track which would be out very soon.
