Janhvi Kapoor recalls mother Sridevi being called a “homewrecker”: “People were not very kind”

Janhvi Kapoor recently spoke about the public scrutiny surrounding her mother Sridevi and reflected on how harsh labels affected the late actor during her lifetime. In a conversation with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel, Janhvi recalled witnessing the criticism directed at Sridevi, particularly during the early years of her relationship with filmmaker Boney Kapoor.

“I have seen that journey. People were not very kind when she was around. They called her a homewrecker and all the cruel things. It played on her mind and made her feel a certain way, but history is kind to people who have passed,” Janhvi said.

 

Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s relationship had drawn attention at the time, as Boney was earlier married to Mona Kapoor and had two children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, from his first marriage.

 

During the conversation, Janhvi also spoke about how her understanding of her mother changed over time. Reflecting on what she would say to Sridevi today, she shared that she now sees her experiences from a different perspective. “I understand her now. And I am sorry that I didn't understand her before. She was dealing with things with a completely different lens, compared to how I used to see it when I was a kid. Professional, financial, and others. She started working from the age of four, but she never shared any stories of her struggles with us. She only shared happy stories,” Janhvi said.

 

The actor added that living without her mother over the past several years has shaped how she processes these memories and understands the pressures Sridevi faced both personally and professionally.
