Fatima Sana Shaikh finds the heartbeat of old-school ishq in Gustaakh Ishq as Minni

Fatima Sana Shaikh’s next film promises to be one of her most heartfelt performances yet. In Gustaakh Ishq – Kucch Pehle Jaisa, directed by Vibhu Puri, she plays Minni — a bright, middle-class woman whose capacity for love forms the emotional core of the story.

Set against the backdrop of Punjab’s fading havelis and the old lanes of Purani Dilli, Gustaakh Ishq explores a timeless romance rooted in emotion and simplicity. The film also stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sharib Hashmi, with music composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics penned by Gulzar.

 

Minni isn’t portrayed as a grand or larger-than-life heroine. Instead, she is someone relatable — a woman whose dreams sometimes feel too big for her world. Fatima Sana Shaikh said that this authenticity is what drew her to the role. “Minni reminded me of so many women I’ve known — strong, grounded, and quietly hopeful. She believes in love, but on her own terms. There’s dignity in her stillness,” she shared.

 

Director Vibhu Puri described Minni as the “heartbeat of Gustaakh Ishq.” He said, “Fatima brings a rare honesty to her performance. There’s something deeply human about the way she turns silence into emotion.”

 

Produced by Manish Malhotra and his brother Dinesh Malhotra, Gustaakh Ishq marks Manish Malhotra’s first venture as a film producer. The project reflects his passion for cinema, design, and storytelling. With Naseeruddin Shah playing a soulful poet and Vijay Varma portraying a man discovering the language of love, Minni’s journey unfolds delicately between their worlds.

 

Gustaakh Ishq captures the charm of old-fashioned romance — a world of chai, poetry, and quiet longing — reminding audiences that classic love stories still have a place on the big screen.

 

The film is set to release in theatres on November 28.
