A film highly anticipated in this regard is the classic Sholay (1975). EXCLUSIVE: Ramesh Sippy CONFIRMS, "Sholay to re-release mostly in November"; reveals why he was UNHAPPY with the film's 3D version: "The soundtrack was changed and I DIDN'T like that"

When asked whether Sholay will be back in cinemas, Ramesh Sippy confirmed, “Yes, it’s going for a whole new re-release. I think it’ll happen in November. The shows that happened recently (in festivals) were like single screenings. Sholay hasn’t got a theatrical release yet.”

When asked who would be distributing Sholay, he replied, “I don’t know. I don’t handle the day-to-day affairs.”

Incidentally, Sholay has had several repeat runs in 50 years. The last re-release of the film happened in 2014 when it was presented in the 3D version. On this, Ramesh Sippy said, “I didn’t like that version; the way it was remastered. The soundtrack was changed and I didn’t like that. During the re-release this time, it’ll be available in its original format.”

Ramesh Sippy last made a film, Shimla Mirchi (2020), starring Rajkummar Rao, Rakul Preet Singh and the Dream Girl, Hema Malini. When asked if he would like to make another film, he revealed, “I am already working on a subject. If all goes well, I’ll be able to announce it not too far in the future.”

Can we expect an announcement before his birthday, January 23? The blockbuster filmmaker smiled and said, “Could be. You never know.”
