EXCLUSIVE: Lalit Pandit of Jatin-Lalit duo disappointed by Kumar Sanu claiming sole ownership for ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’; says, “Not good on his part”
Lalit Pandit recently expressed his disappointment with singer Kumar Sanu's failure to acknowledge the contributions of lyricist Anand Bakshi and the composers themselves in the creation of the iconic song ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh.’ The Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge song is still cherished by fans worldwide. It was a defining moment in both DDLJ's success and Kumar Sanu's career. However, Pandit revealed Sanu has frequently claimed sole ownership of the song, neglecting the crucial roles played by Bakshi's lyrics and Jatin-Lalit's composition.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Pandit spoke about the collaborative nature of song creation: "It is not good on his part to continuously say, 'Mera gaana hai, mera gaana hai (It is my song, it is my song).’”. He highlighted that composers are the driving force behind the music, selecting singers and shaping the overall sound.
While acknowledging ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’ as a highlight of Sanu's career, Pandit expressed his disappointment at the lack of recognition for Bakshi and Jatin-Lalit. Interestingly, Pandit also revealed that Sanu never collaborated with Yash Raj Films again after DDLJ, hinting at potential tension during the song's production.
Despite these professional disagreements, Pandit maintained a generally positive relationship with Sanu. He acknowledged that creative differences are common, but they should not overshadow the collaborative spirit of music creation.
Speaking of the professional front, Lalit Pandit is currently bagging praise for his work in Amazon Prime Video’s popular web show Panchayat.
