EXCLUSIVE: Karan Johar responds to the biggest question of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, ‘Pyaar Kya Hai’

Taking Dharma Productions to a whole new level, the head honcho Karan Johar has become one of the biggest filmmakers of B-town. Besides his close-knit camaraderie with most in the industry, KJo is also known for his films. While he rarely gets into the director’s chair anymore, we all know that this popular filmmaker started his career by directing one of the cults of the 90s, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji. The film revolving around friendship and love, posed an important question – ‘Pyaar Kya Hai’ (What is Love). In this exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Karan Johar responds to this iconic question.

While we have heard the responses given by Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, more times than we can remember, the film’s director too has an interesting response for this question. Known for his witty humour, Karan Johar answered to this question during the Bollywood Hungama rapid fire round saying, “Pyaar tolerance hai”.

 

 

Moviebuffs would be aware that Archana Puran Singh, who essays the role of professor Miss Braganza, asks the question – What Is Love while talking about William Shakespeare’s novel Romeo & Juliet. After failed attempts from Anjali aka Kajol and Tina aka Rani, Rahul aka SRK is the one who responds to it saying, “Pyaar dosti hai” (Love is Friendship). The dialogue went on to become a ‘love mantra’ for many during the 90s.

 

Speaking of Karan Johar, the filmmaker recently wrapped up his popular chat show Koffee With Karan Season 7 with a promise that it will return with a new season next year. Dharma Productions, which has now spread its wings into a variety of projects including South Cinema, has some interesting films in the pipeline.

 

Coming to direction, Karan Johar returns to filmmaking with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani starring his favorites Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt along with an ensemble cast that includes Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and Jaya Bachchan who are expected to play key roles in the film. While the release date was expected to be in February, the film’s release is said to have been pushed further due to Alia’s maternity break.
