EXCLUSIVE: Anubhav Sinha explains why "Bhushan Kumar is in the same category as Shah Rukh Khan"; reveals how the producer reacted to the comparison

Anubhav Sinha has worked with several producers, but his maximum association has been with T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar. After making a mark in the TV space, he graduated to making music videos for T-Series. In 2001, he directed Bhushan Kumar’s debut film as a producer, Tum Bin (2001), and it turned out to be a sleeper musical success. Both then collaborated on Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai (2003), Tum Bin 2 (2016), Thappad (2020), Anek (2020) and Bheed (2023). Moreover, Anubhav Sinha and Bhushan Kumar jointly produced Hansal Mehta-directed Faraaz (2023) and Sudhir Mishra-helmed Afwaah (2023). Now, they have joined hands yet again for Anubhav's upcoming directorial venture, Assi, fronted by Taapsee Pannu.

 

EXCLUSIVE: Anubhav Sinha explains why "Bhushan Kumar is in the same category as Shah Rukh Khan"; reveals how the producer reacted to the comparison

 

Anubhav Sinha has spoken highly of Bhushan Kumar in several interviews. Once, he said, “'Shah Rukh Khan and Bhushan Kumar are the 2 most hard-working people that I know.” Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Anubhav about it and how Bhushan Kumar reacted to this compliment.

 

Anubhav Sinha began by saying, “Some days back, I was talking to Bhushan on the phone. It was 11 at night, and halfway through our conversation, I realised that he was working. I asked him, ‘Are you still in the office?’. He replied, ‘Yes’. I remarked, ‘You are a mad man!’”

 

Anubhav continued, “I told him that in an interview I said, ‘I thought I was the hardest-working guy on the planet until I met Shah Rukh Khan. Then I realized that you are in the same category as Shah Rukh Khan. Both of you are mad people when it comes to working hard’. He simply said, ‘Yes, I saw that interview’ (laughs). He was too busy with work to react!”

 

When asked what's next, Anubhav Sinha replied, “Life! I need some life. In the last three months, there has been so much travelling and work that I just want to sit somewhere with good weather, be in a creative space, and not think about work at all. But if you are talking about my next film, then I don’t know. This is the first time where I am releasing a film and don’t know what my next would be. I do have scripts and have completed writing a couple of them. I was working on 2 until the storm of the release of Assi hit me. I would go back to writing those and then figure out what I want to do next. At times, you end up making a film which you didn’t plan as your next, but that’s destiny. I guess by the end of March, I’ll know what I want to do next.”

 

A conversation with Anubhav Sinha is often not complete without talking about food. Since he’s such a big foodie, has he ever planned to start a food-based channel on YouTube? Anubhav Sinha said, “No. I am a foodie to the extent that I like to eat. That’s where my speciality lies!”
