Chakori Dwivedi on writing ‘Jee Liya’ for Tu Yaa Main: “I wanted the lyrics to feel like a quiet exhale”

Actress-lyricist Chakori Dwivedi is receiving attention for her work on ‘Jee Liya’, a romantic track from the film Tu Yaa Main, starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor. The song, composed by Adarsh Gourav and Aditya N, features lyrics by Chakori and appears at a key point in the film’s narrative.

‘Jee Liya’ presents a contemporary take on romance, focusing on emotional intimacy rather than heightened drama. The track underscores the evolving relationship between the lead characters and adds depth to their journey. With its understated tone, the song has found space on digital playlists and was also performed at the recently concluded Kala Ghoda Arts Festival.

 

Speaking about her collaboration with Adarsh Gourav, Chakori Dwivedi said, “My actor friend, Dheer Hira recommended me to Adarsh. Adarsh and I had collaborated on an independent track earlier, and when he approached me with Jee Liya, he had a clear emotional core in mind, which gave me a beautiful starting point as a writer. The process involved a lot of exploration and fine-tuning, but what really stood out was the creative freedom and trust he extended to me. Once the song came together, the director, Bejoy Nambiar, heard it and instantly connected with it. He loved the lyrics and felt they added emotional depth to the narrative, and that’s when he decided to include the track in the film and also asked for a duet version, which eventually became part of the album. I didn’t want the lyrics to feel loud or performative; I wanted them to feel like a quiet exhale, like the relief of finally allowing yourself to feel something without fear.”

 

She further added, “It’s been really special to see people connect with the lyrics and make the song their own. When you write from a personal, honest place, you always hope it resonates with someone out there, but the love ‘Jee Liya’ has received has been overwhelming in the best way. Knowing that listeners are falling in love with the words, finding their own meanings in them, and carrying the song into their everyday moments makes the entire journey incredibly fulfilling.”

 

Apart from Tu Yaa Main, Chakori has writing credits on shows such as Class and Ziddi Girls. As an actor, she has appeared in Home Shanti and Agra Affair, and will next be seen in Ek Din, backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
