Celina Jaitly speaks out after court rejects plea to communicate with detained brother: “This was never about me”

Actor Celina Jaitly has shared a detailed and emotional statement on social media after the Delhi High Court dismissed her petition seeking consular access and legal assistance for her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates since 2024.

In her Instagram post, Jaitly reflected on her last interaction with her brother, revealing that they last spoke on August 23, 2024, shortly before his detention on September 6. She stated that he was initially held in secret detention until May 2025 and has since been kept in a detention centre in the Middle East, where he has now spent nearly 18 months without formal proceedings. She added that access to him has remained limited and controlled.

 

Addressing his current situation, Jaitly wrote that she cannot speculate on what her brother may have been told during detention, noting that he has always been protective of her and may be trying to shield her from additional stress. She emphasised that any decisions taken by a detainee must be understood within the context of their circumstances, especially when they have limited awareness of the outside world.

 

She also mentioned that her brother has, at times, declined communication with other family members, stating that he did not wish to speak to anyone. Despite this, she maintained that her primary concern has always been his physical and mental well-being.

 

Clarifying the intent behind her legal move, Jaitly said the petition was not about her personally but about ensuring that her brother had access to communication and proper legal representation. She expressed gratitude towards the Government of India, noting that officials have had nine consular interactions with him since June 2025 and have continued to encourage him to accept legal aid.

 

 

 

“My only intention has always been his safety, legal protection, and dignity,” she wrote, adding that she respects his efforts to protect her but will continue to support him and advocate for his rights.

 

Concluding her note on a personal note, Jaitly said that until she is able to meet and speak to her brother directly, she cannot draw any firm conclusions about his situation. Reaffirming her stance, she added that she would continue to stand by him unconditionally.
