Arshad Warsi reveals Akshay Kumar was keen to be a part of Jaani Dushman: “Jo bhi marega, uske baad mai aajata hoon”

Actor Arshad Warsi recently reflected on the 2002 Bollywood film Jaani Dushman, sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the movie that has since gained cult status. In a conversation with Mashable India, Warsi revealed how Akshay Kumar’s excitement for the project led him to volunteer for any role, jokingly offering to appear as the reincarnation of every character that died in the film.

Recalling Akshay Kumar’s enthusiasm, Warsi shared, “He is unbelievable. He was willing to do everybody’s role. He said, ‘Jo bhi marega, uske baad mai aajata hoon’ (I will come as the reincarnation of whoever dies).” Warsi further described Kumar’s dedication, explaining how his character would take on different missions, drawing comparisons to the adaptability seen in Mission Impossible. “Everything was happening. Whoever died, Akshay came back like them,” Warsi joked.

Sharing his personal experience on set, Warsi admitted he found the movie’s outlandish nature highly amusing. “It’s a cult movie. I love it. It's the only film where I have laughed myself to death. If you look closely, you’ll see a smile on my face when I'm dying,” he said.

 

He also revealed that he requested the director, Rajkumar Kohli, to kill off his character, Abdul, early in the movie. “That was one film where my first request was, ‘Sir, sabse pehle aap mujhe maaroge.’ The director said, ‘Nahin yaar, do ke baad tujhe maarunga,’ and I agreed, ‘Theek hai sir.’”

Despite receiving mixed reviews and struggling at the box office initially, Jaani Dushman has grown into a cult classic over the years. Known for its star-studded cast, including Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Aditya Pancholi, Manisha Koirala and Sonu Nigam, the film’s unique plot—a shape-shifting snake seeking revenge for a past-life tragedy—has provided endless entertainment for meme enthusiasts and Bollywood fans alike.
