Aanand L Rai calls Tu Yaa Main an “unpredictable” survival thriller as he talks about backing Shanya Kapoor-Adarsh Gourav starrer
Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has opened up about what drew him to support Tu Yaa Main, describing the project as an unusual and unpredictable story for Hindi cinema. Speaking about the film, Rai noted that the premise immediately stood out because creature-led survival thrillers are rarely explored in the industry.
“What excited me about Tu Yaa Main was the sheer unpredictability of it,” he said. “We don’t often see creature-driven survival stories in our cinema, and here it was combined with characters who feel completely rooted in today’s world.”
According to Rai, the relatability of the central characters adds to the stakes of the story. “Maruti and Avani feel like people you’d know,” he explained. “And when you place characters like that in an extreme situation, the tension becomes far more personal.”
The film follows two young content creators navigating ambition, relationships and the pressures of a digital-first world. Rai believes that grounding the story in contemporary characters helps the narrative resonate beyond the thriller elements.
For his banner Colour Yellow Productions, the project continues a tradition of supporting distinctive stories that move beyond familiar mainstream formulas. Rai added that films like Tu Yaa Main also reflect a larger attempt to connect with younger audiences by telling stories that mirror their realities while still offering a theatrical experience.
