Box Office: Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur does better, Rock On 2 struggles

 

Amongst this Friday releases, Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur (RBSB) has done better business on a restricted release. Though in absolute numbers the film's collections [Rs. 1.75 crores*] may not seem huge but then the film was released prominently in Punjab and Delhi territories. In that perspective, the film was helped by the fact that the first in the series by Harry Baweja was a Blockbuster and had done well globally. Moreover, for an animation film with a religious theme to it, Chaar Sahibzaade: RBSB is further restricted for audience and even then the footfalls have been more than just decent.Box Office: Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur does better, Rock On 2 struggles

 

Comparatively, Rock On 2 hasn't opened well. Even in a decent case scenario, the film was expected to open at least triple of what Rock On (2008) had collected on its opening day [Rs. 1.75 crores]. However, what transpired in theaters was all the more shocking as the film just didn't find any audience whatsoever. There were hardly any footfalls in the morning shows and though situation did improve in the evening and night shows, the momentum was still not huge enough to warrant a good Day One number. As a result, only Rs. 2.02 crores came on Friday, which is definitely not what the makers would have bargained for.

 

The film hadn't seen buzz building up for it towards the release and the fact that the soundtrack didn't grow either further impacted the opening. Of course, demonetization had a part to play as well but even in the best case scenario, the collections could have been double of what the film earned on the first day and even that wouldn't have been enough.

 

Eros has backed both Rock On 2 and Chaar Sahibzaade: RBSB and at least latter has kept the flag flying for it.

 

Other releases of the week, Dongri Ka Raja, Ishq Junoon and Yeh Hai Lollypop had no face value. They were hardly released in a few shows in some parts of the country and the collections are way too meager to be spoken about.
