Veteran Music Director O.P. Nayyar passes away

Veteran music director O.P. Nayyar passed away on Jan 28, 2007, following a cardiac arrest at his home in Thane. He was 81. Nayyar can surely be called as one of the greatest music composers our film industry ever had. Born on January 16, 1926 in Lahore, Nayyar got his first break into films with Kaneez (1949). His first major success however came with Guru Dutts Aar Paar (1954). From then on, he grew better with every film and went on to become a legend. Some of his greatest musical creations can be heard in like Mr. and Mrs. 55 (1955), CID (1956) , Naya Daur (1957), Tumsa Nahi Dekha (1957) and Kashmir Ki Kali (1964) . His last film was Deepa Mehtas Bollywood Hollywood (2002). Nayyar was living with the family of Rani Nakhwa for more than a decade now after being separated from his family. On Sunday, he was doing perfect well till 3:30pm when he went to the toilet and collapsed. Nayyar was dead before he could be taken to the hospital. Though he did not make film music for long, Nayyar was regularly seen on television shows relating to music. He always appeared with his trademark hat and white shirt whenever he made public appearances.
