Single-screen theatres call off strike

The 19-day-old strike by single-screen theatre owners was called off today following a government notification to reduce the entertainment duty and to hike the service charges. The notification to reduce entertainment duty by ten per cent and hike service charges would be applicable from April nine, according to sources at the Cinema Exhibitors' Association. The theatres would open immediately and some of it would also screen the six pm show, the sources said.
