"I had the Deewani Mastani song in my head for 12 years" - Sanjay Bhansali

By Subhash K. Jha -

The first song 'Deewani Mastani' from Bajirao Mastani , a tribute to the immortal dance number 'Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya' in K Asif's Mughal-e-Azam shows Deepika Padukone gliding through a song that has been shot on a pristine and pulsating passionately pastel set denoting the royal durbar of Peshwa Bajirao.

Seldom, if ever, have we seen a cinematic depiction of a royal durbar been done in such scintillating pastel hues. The chorus dancers shimmer in their regal outfits as they twirl and pirouette to a tune that is typically Bhansali.

The director who composed the song is excited anxious and confident that the number will have its desired effect.

"I've lived with the tune in my head for 12 years. It has been playing over and over again in my mind. And now to finally see it come to life on screen is a moment of great satisfaction for me," says Sanjay Bhansali.

The entire shooting of Bajirao Mastani is almost over and the film readies itself for release on December 18.
