Actor Manoj Bajpayee has spoken about the preparation required to portray an RBI Governor in the upcoming film Governor, directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, which is set for theatrical release on June 12, 2026.

In a recent podcast appearance, Bajpayee revealed that his limited background in economics meant he had to research basic financial terminology before filming each scene.
“I’ve played the role of RBI governor, so I had to study the basic terms and know the information needed. As I was very bad in economics, so for every scene and dialogue, I had to search the terms online because as an actor, everything I deliver has to be believable. So what does it mean that we have a deficit balance of 1.5 billion if I didn’t understand it,” said Bajpayee.
Set against the backdrop of India’s financial crisis of the 1990s, Governor follows the decisions, institutional conflicts, and political pressures of that period. The film’s recently released trailer offers a look at Bajpayee’s portrayal of a governor navigating a critical chapter in the country’s economic history.
Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures and co-produced by Aashin A. Shah, the film features a screenplay by Suvendu Bhattacharyjee, Saurabh Bharat, Ravi Asrani, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The music is composed by Amit Trivedi, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Governor is scheduled for release on June 12, 2026.
