Known for crafting intense, larger-than-life characters in films like KGF and Salaar, Prashanth Neel has revealed that Dragon will feature perhaps the darkest protagonist he has written so far. NTR will be seen playing a morally layered and psychologically complex character named Luger — a role that the director admits was both risky and emotionally demanding.
Speaking about the ambitious role and NTR’s willingness to embrace it, Prashanth Neel said, “This is probably one of the most difficult decisions NTR had to take as an actor. The character, Luger, is far darker than anything I’ve written before, and for a star of his magnitude to accept such a risky role is incredibly brave. It took us almost three years to arrive at the emotional reasoning behind why this character does what he does. When everything finally fell into place, he simply said, ‘Let’s do it,’ despite knowing how challenging and unexpected it would be for his audience.”
The filmmaker’s statement has sparked intense discussion online, especially among fans eager to see NTR step into a completely different space after the global success of RRR and his recent commercial entertainers. Industry insiders believe Dragon could showcase a more emotionally intense and darker side of the actor than audiences have previously witnessed.
Prashanth Neel’s films are often known for balancing scale with emotionally driven storytelling, and Dragon appears to be following the same path. The teaser suggests that the film will not only feature stylised action and high-voltage drama but will also deeply explore the psyche of its central character.
Apart from Jr NTR, the film also stars Anil Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Sidhant Gupta, Biju Menon, and Rukmini Vasanth in pivotal roles. With expectations soaring around the Prashanth Neel - Jr NTR collaboration, Dragon is currently slated to release in theatres worldwide on June 11, 2027.
