Starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, the romantic drama opened on expected lines before gradually showing stability over the weekend and into the weekdays, an encouraging sign for a genre that has recently struggled to pull younger audiences into theatres. According to reports, the film opened at Rs. 3 crore on Friday, followed by a steady upward trend over the weekend with Rs. 3.50 crore on Saturday and Rs. 4.10 crore on Sunday, taking the opening weekend total to Rs. 10.60 crore.
What has particularly stood out for the trade, however, is the film’s ability to maintain visibility during a period heavily dominated by IPL playoff conversations and blockbuster Tuesday offers in cinemas. Romantic dramas in recent years have often seen sharp post-weekend drops, especially when competing against cricket viewership and discounted ticket-driven audience behaviour. Yet Chand Mera Dil appears to have benefited from positive youth word-of-mouth, social-media traction and growing appreciation for the chemistry between its lead pair.
The film collected Rs. 2 crore on Monday, a drop, but one considered relatively controlled for a mid-budget urban romance in the current theatrical environment. Trade observers are viewing this as a positive indicator that the film has found an audience beyond initial curiosity value.
Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported that the film’s opening day business was aided by discounted ticket pricing but also noted that the weekend trajectory and Monday hold would ultimately determine its theatrical journey. In that context, the film’s ability to remain in the conversation despite IPL playoff distraction becomes particularly significant.
The Lakshya-Ananya pairing has also emerged as one of the film’s biggest talking points online. Clips from the film, songs and emotional sequences have circulated widely across Instagram reels and fan pages, helping the movie maintain strong Gen-Z engagement even amid intense cricket competition.
Importantly, Chand Mera Dil was never positioned as a mass-action spectacle. Its performance therefore reflects something increasingly rare in today’s theatrical landscape, an urban romantic drama slowly building through audience connection rather than opening-day hype alone.
With a reported India net collection of Rs. 12.60 crore so far and a worldwide gross of Rs. 17.2 crore, the film may not be chasing blockbuster numbers, but it is steadily proving that there is still space for emotional, relationship-driven storytelling in theatres even during IPL season.
